Unmovable Mountain - Audio version
Dumakulem is the strong, agile guardian of the mountains, son of Idiyanale and Dimangan. Like a mountain, Dumakulem’s values and beliefs are firm and unmoving. He believes that gods and goddesses should not take advantage of their abilities. The mountains he creates are massive, symbolizing his strength and power. Its slope signifies his ability to stay grounded while rockslides are an indication of his anger. Legend has it that once you reach the peak of his mountain domains, you will receive abundance and prosperity.
One day,he witnesses his sister, Anitun Tabu, terrorizing a village with her ferocious winds and storms. Outraged, Dumakulem puts a stop to Anitun Tabu's act. He is furious, calling her unjust and undeserving of her powers. That day, he decides to turn his back on his own kind and vows to protect mortals. Using his godly strength, he creates mountains that provide shelter and shield for humans, protecting them from his rival, Anitun Tabu. People pray to him for strength and safety upon hunting because he is considered as their protector. Hikers and travellers also ask for his guidance and he gladly bestows it upon them by creating trails and clearing paths. Warriors also call out to him, asking the god to lend his powers to defend their clans. Mothers who are unable to care for their children would also leave them to the mountains, fully aware that they are in Dumakulem's protection. He sees his wife, Anagolay, the goddess of lost things, while guarding a lost child who wanders in his domains. He falls in love the moment he sees her, touched by her gentleness. They soon get married, bearing two offspring, Apolaki and Dian Masalanta, the ancient gods of sun and lovers, respectively. Their marriage and family is centered on unconditional love and moral values. As a result, some people would also ask for guidance in pursuing a relationship, hoping to find a love like the one between Dumakulem and Anagolay.
